New Ads, Old Ads

Dennis Regan

We are starting the 2019 skateboard season here in Canada. It also marks the start of our ad campaigns in Canadian skateboard magazines.

To get some inspiration, we looked through our past advertisements.

From ads in the defunct Concrete Skateboarding mag, to the long running King Skateboard mag, through the newly reborn SBC Skateboard mag, even the newest Medium Magazine. There was a lot to go through.

We support print media. There is something about paging through a paper magazine that scrolling through an app will never replace.

We even put an ad in The Tubuloids comic book / flexizine release this spring.

Someone had to take the picture, someone had to create a caption, another had to write a story. Then the whole thing is put together to make a cohesive article. The editor comes through and makes sure everything speaks with the voice of the magazine. These voices change over time. Editors come and go. Move to new magazines etc..

Then the whole thing goes to a print shop, where blank paper is transformed into a skateboard mag.

It exists to capture time. Feeling. Acccomplishment. Art.

From print shop to skate shop, then on to homes, bags, bathrooms, and coffee tables. From person to person it is passed and paged through. Always inspiring.

Inspiring the next trick, next trip, or magazine.

We support print media. A bridge to the past, and inspiration for the future.

Andy Anderson x Brett Novak Make A Skate Film

Dennis Regan

This summer film maker Brett Novak came to Vancouver to film with Vulcan Bolts’ team rider Andy Anderson.

Brett has an amazing eye for skateboarding. He captures the style and power of Andy Anderson. With a smooth pace, the video captures both skateboarding and Vancouver’s beauty.

“Balance - the flow of water, and the consistency of concrete. The ground, and the spaces in between. The simplicity of instability, and the complexities of flat ground. Riding the board, face down, face up, and face out. The purposeful objects of the city, plus the joy of play. The corners, sharp and round. Forwards, backwards, and spinning, all coming together.” - Andy Anderson

Watch the video, you will understand.

Andy Anderson Interviewed By Stacey Peralta

Dennis Regan

Vulcan Bolts team rider Andy Anderson, sat down with Powell Peralta for an interview. This Powell Story covers what drives Andy.

How does he see skateboarding. Is it a game, a sport? His answer will surprise you. For such a young man, he has amazing insight into the activity of skateboarding.

He even gives Stacey Peralta a new answer to an old question.

Watch the video below to understand.

Andy Anderson is one of a kind. One of the most interesting and open minded skaters that you could ever meet. From free style skateboarding to big rails, vert ramps, and bowls, Andy has something for it all.

Vulcan Bolts has been supporting Andy Anderson for a few years now. We think he is only starting to make his mark on the skateboard world.

There will be much more to come.

See Andy set up a new board with Nigel K Alexander of NKA Vids in the video below. His take on gripping a 9 inch wide board will impress you!

Vulcan Bolts Makes Griptape!

Dennis Regan

Griptape has always been an essential part of skateboarding. It has to be grippy enough to control your board, but slippery enough to toss it around.

It is a tough line to walk. Grip to Slip ratio.

Vulcan Bolts has sampled and tested until they came up with the right combination. Grippy enough to pop, slippy enough to flick.

Vulcan Griptape has arrived at Platform Distribution.

The griptape was all worked out. Then they added the comic on the back. It calls back to the comic strip in 25 cent bubble gums. Just enough to make you smile!

Platform Distribution is the wholesale distributor for Vulcan Bolts hardware, bearings, and griptape. Contact your sales rep to bring Vulcan into your shop.

Coping Bash Round 2

Dennis Regan

Speedlab Wheels and Vulcan Bolts sponsored Round 2 of the Coping Bash.

This contest was presented by Skull Skates on SBC restaurant's 65 foot wide mini ramp.

It was held during the KNOWSHOW tradeshow in Vancouver. A perfect event to showcase the Vancouver skateboard talent to all of the tradeshow attendees.

King Skate Mag's Jeff Thorburn caught much of the action in pictures. These beautiful black and white photos capture the spirit and energy of the event.

Congratulations to James Clarke for taking First!
